Founded in 1972, the Ian Potter Museum of Art is the University of Melbourne’s art museum. fatfish were invited to evolve their website into a visual documentary of the Museum.
The Potter is the largest university-based art museum in Australia and a national leader in the field. The Potter manages the University Art Collection, a rich resource of art and artifacts spanning neolithic to contemporary. It was important for fatfish to represent the gallery with as many visual elements as possible without diluting, rather enhancing the message of the website. Our goal was to create an easy to navigate online gallery of sorts presenting to the viewer a taste of what the Museum has to offer, and ideally encourage more visits. The site also had to be integrated into our user friendly Piranha CMS system whilst talking to and pulling data from global gallery collection databases.
fatfish developed a solution that seamlessly integrated all of The Potter’s requirements. Not only do they have a visually stunning web site, our back end system enables dynamic content updates accessing a global database of endless collection imagery. The site is also viewable via a specifically developed portable version of the site on smart phones, a first for The Potter. The final result has enabled the Museum to proudly inform the art loving public in an easy and uncluttered way. www.art-museum.unimelb.edu.au
